GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Our Astro 375 electrodes are low-temperature electrodes, designed for contact work, thus keeping the base metal at the lowest possible temperature during welding. This helps eliminate warpage and distortion of the base metal. There is a smooth arc transfer of the weld metal and the deposit is not heat treatable, yet fully machinable.
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:
The principal of this electrode is to eliminate the guesswork that very often goes into welding steels of unknown analysis. The welder, who is an expert in his trade, cannot be expected to know the chemical analysis or tensile strength of a steel that, in some cases, may be many years old. Downtime is a factor no industry wants, nor can it accurately cost. A diligent use of this electrode in the maintenance repair area will reduce downtime.

Tensile strength: Up to 120,000 P.S.I. (830 MPa)
(after work hardening) Up to 180,000 P.S.I. (1240 MPa)
Yield strength: Up to 90,000 P.S.I. (620 MPa)
Elongation: 22 to 25%
Hardness: 200 Brinell
WELDING PROCEDURES:
Clean weld area of all foreign material. Preheating to 150-250C will help minimise cracking on high alloy steels, tool steels and stainless steels. Strike an arc and hold a short arc or touch the electrode to the base metal. Use stringer beads, do not weave and let each bead cool before removing slag. Slag is easily removed after each pass with light chipping and brushing.
