GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Astro cutting electrode is designed to cut or pierce through all types of metal including the harder to cut metals, such as stainless steel and nickel
  • Astro cutting electrode is specially designed to have a slow burn off rate
  • Astro cutting electrode has a special coating which produces exothermic heat, giving more cutting distance per electrode
  • Astro cutting electrode produces even, straight cuts and perfectly round holes with no base metal drippings

Cutting nickel, copper, brass, bronze, aluminium, stainless steel, cast iron, carbon and alloy steels.  Piercing holes, removing rivets, bolts and defects in any of the above materials.

WELDING PROCEDURES:

Cutting:

Clean cuts can be made by using either an AC or DC machine with sufficient capacity, a DC machine set to straight polarity will give best results.

To cut through a piece of metal, it will be easier if it is placed in a flat position.  Hold electrode at a 45 degree angle to the piece to be cut.  Strike the arc, and using the electrode as if it were a hand saw, keep the end of the electrode in constant contact with the work, continue the sawing action.  A short arc must be maintained to produce a clean cut with little over-heating of the work.

Piercing:

Piercing holes is very easy by holding the electrode in the vertical position, striking an arc and pushing the electrode down until it penetrates through the material. The hole can be enlarged in the same manner.
